Classic Burlesque Workshop

Time:

4:00pm - 5:30pm

Class Description:

Learn to channel your inner vintage vixen with the right moves to match in this intermediate workshop. Building on the basics covered in Burlesque 101, this workshop will take a deeper dive into the "Golden Era" of burlesque and the choreographic styles of the glitzy goddesses of yesteryear.

You'll pay homage to legends such as Gypsy Rose Lee, Lili St. Cyr, Tempest Storm, Blaze Starr and more, exploring their signature moves and classic routines from the 1930s-1950s. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, this workshop will help you develop your skills and add some vintage glamour to your repertoire.

Skills covered:

  • Classic burlesque choreography and characterisation
  • Silver screen-inspired striptease techniques
  • Audience interaction and performance skills
  • Confidence-building and self-esteem upliftment
  • Comedic timing with striptease
  • Glove peeling techniques

Inclusivity:

I believe that burlesque is for everyone, regardless of gender or body type. My classes are a safe and welcoming space for all, and I welcome individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or have some dance experience, you are welcome to join me in celebrating your body, exploring movement, and developing your skills. I aim to create an inclusive environment where all can feel comfortable expressing themselves and learning at their own pace. So, don't worry if you are new to dance, I am here to support and encourage you through every bump, grind, and shimmy.

Equipment:

You are welcome to bring a pen and paper/notebook to take notes during the workshops, but it is not required. All props, such as gloves, boas, and other accessories, will be provided for you. However, if you have your own props and would prefer to use them, you are welcome to bring them along.

Dress Code:

I want you to feel comfortable and confident during class, so wear something that makes you feel good! Leggings, shorts, and a singlet are all great options. You're also welcome to wear lingerie or any other clothing that makes you feel sexy. However, please make sure you are able to move freely and safely in whatever you choose to wear.

In addition, I recommend wearing dance heels if possible. This will help you practice proper stance and technique, and will give you a better feel for the classic burlesque style. However, if you're not comfortable in heels, you're welcome to wear flat dance shoes or bare feet. Whatever you choose, make sure you feel comfortable and confident to strut your stuff!
